Add Hidden Object

Adding the hidden objects to my background wasn't as confusing as I thought it was going to be. At the beginning I was sort of nervous and didn't know exactly what to do. I thought to myself, you've been here almost 4 years and don't know what you're doing? I forgot for a second that I did know what I was doing. Anyways, I love how we have a help center which provides information for us. Getting the code from the wiki was easy, mainly for everyone but I thought looking at the code and writing it in there was better because that way I get used to it, better than just copying it. I would love to add more objects to my scene. One of my ideas is to draw a scene with all different types of food, almost pile them up and hide the healthy foods, to make it super hard for the player. I would also love to add a humongous X to each unhealthy item with a wrong sound. Hopefully I will do that. Until then, BYE!

Drawing My Background

Drawing my background wasn't hard at all. I say it was easy because I knew what to draw since I had my paper prototype. Drawing a paper prototype helps a lot. I also enjoyed drawing my background because I keep imagining ideas for the rest of my game, which is a great thing. Over all drawing my background was practice for my final product.

Election Day 2012

Yay! My prediction was absolutely correct! I knew he was going to win. It's called Confidence and Pride.

I'll give you an explanation of the results. At first, Obama was losing, he was far away from winning. At the score of both at 162 Electoral Votes, things started to change. I think  California's Electoral Votes helped Obama a lot because he was given 55 e-votes at the time he was losing. California was the state I was most waiting for because I knew they were going to support Obama. I took a nap and next thing you know, at 10:30p.m. he had won already!!! I was so happy that I went outside and yelled OBAMA 2012!!!!!!!!!! I am proud with the results. Another 4 years of Obama.

Paper Prototype 1

I learned that creating a game with a paper and pencil is much easier than actually creating it in Flash. I also learned that creating a game with paper and pencil is helpful because you are able to spot every part of the game. It is easier for you to plan out how your game will look.

The most easiest task in drawing my hidden object game was drawing the scenes because since my mind is being delivered into a piece of paper, I can have more freedom to specifically preview the objects in the game scene. It wasn't hard, well yeah, probably the hardest part was choosing which foods are healthier and which ones are not.

I still need to add an information scene to my game. I have 2 instructional scenes on there but I need one more because I want the player to know what is actually going on and what the purpose of the game is. The 2 instructional pages are not as specific to know the purpose of the game.

Frankenstorm 2012

Hurrican Sandy moves towards the east coast of the U.S. in this Nasa Satellite image taken on October 29,2012

Greatly, I don't actually know anyone from the North East. I say "greatly" because I don't get to see them suffer or in need of help. Although I do wish I knew someone from there at the same time because I would be aware of what is happening there. I don't know anyone from New York City either.

If I was to make a hidden object game about Frankenstorm, the setting would be in New York, in an apartment complex, ince it's such a populated place, not only because of that but because I want to. It would take place the whole day, 24/7.
Observation of the wheather every hour. I would show the player what is going on, such as the wheather, shelters, and resources, but they must find out where things are going on too.
The 10 objects I would hide would be
- wheather station
- help center
- shelter
- cars
- First Kid-Aid
- buildings
- clothes
- wheather sounds
- phones
- food

The player would learn good information from my game. Like I said before, he/she will learn how and where to find resources. He will learn journalist skills. He will find out himself what is going on and how to make a lot out of something. He will try to help others by helping them go to a shelter. He will also teach the rest about how storms and wheather happens. Basically, the player will learn survival information.

Choose a Learning Topic

1. My Big Subject Area is: Healthy Living

2. One really important thing I learned about this subject is: that people/families aren't being provided with needed resources, and education, one of the main reason why this epidemic is happening.

3. People should learn: or be educated about what they are eating and where their food comes from, how to choose the best food options for their health

4. My Hidden Object game will teach people how to choose what is best(types of food) for their health. They will compare the nutrition facts of items, they will also learn how to read a nutrition facts

5. The title of my game is: Road to Healthy Living

Malala Yousufzai

Who is Malala Yousofzai?

Malala is a young 14 year old who lives in Pakistan, she is courageous and strong that she had her voice be heard. She wants to get and education and become a doctor.

Where does Malala live?

Malala lives in SWAT, which is now part of Pakistan.

What are the problems that Malala and her people face each day?

Malala and her people face tortue everyday. Girls aren't allowed to attend school, if they do they become endangered. They are threaten to be killed. Women are restricted to go out, the market, shool, and everywhere. The only thing they can do is stay home. Women are being treated unfairly. Girls are in fear of being killed. A young girl shouldn't fear anything at this age, they should worry about their education but it can't happen.

Concluding Thoughts

- Malala and her father were so overcome with sadness and happiness when they returned to their home in Swat Valley because the school wasn't destroyed as much, it was still there.-Reason why they were happy at the same time. They were saddened to see that the classes were destroyed, and threats were left behind.

- Malala was most excited to see her study books and room when returning home because since she is threatened by many people, she has to be around, moving all the time and doesn't have time to take things with her.

- Malala's study books were so precious to her because she loves to study and wants an education. She has many dreams. Her books symbolize her passion for how she wants to make a change in her country. How she wants to make a change.

- The school reopened on July 13.

- Over 200 schools remained closed.

- Malala now wants to be a Politician instead of a Doctor because she and her father believe she would be a great Politician. She wants to change the rules in her country and make it a better place.

NOTES-

January 14 is last day for girls to attend school, they al will loose their education.
At the age of 12 Malala had the chance to meet with Richard(I forgot last name) Obama's right hand man.

Plan Game Scene

I am ready to start on my game! All I need is one more thing, more information. The main reason why this game scene idea excites me is because I have such a huge amount of passion for women. Some people still think of us as nothing and we need to prove everyone that we are equal as Male too. We are the same. We are also strong. They're not the only successful ones. I can already imagine my game although I am having some  trouble putting it together.
My vision is to start off with a title page of course

1st scene- The title of my game will be "I have rights", I chose that title because it represents that women also have rights and we shall be treated the same and correctly

2nd scene- The about page will provide information for the player such as statistics of how women are treated in other countries other than America.

3rd scene- It will provide instructions for the player, guide them step by step, in case they are lost.

Playing Scene- The background will be displayed as other countries where women are treated unright. I can imagine that there will be poverty shown but I am not sure if I am suppose to show that. Show how exactly women live their life's in their country. What they have to go through. I have been thinking of the player

-Choosing a character, -concerned about doing both female and male, since it is Women's Rights. Males can be included as heroes for the women
- Give  a few sentences of the person, play their life such as having to go buy food, sell jewelry, things like that. There will be narrow streets included, small villages, market, and a school.

Choose Learning Topic

Choosing Learning Topic

My Learning Topic is Healthy Living. The reason why I chose Healthy Living is because It is an important topic in my community and all around the country. I can already imagine the character coming to life and choosing the best choice of meal for him. The kids eating healthier and looking better. Many people in our country are not aware of what they eat because they are not educated. I want to educate families to adapt to healthier habits of life, that can help them improve their lives. The story is that you are starting a new life, ROAD TO HEALTHY EATING! You will start off by taking out  all the unhealthy food that is in your kitchen/refrigerator and throwing it in the trash or donating it, but you don't want others to eat unhealthy either.  My game will be a scene full of food, the character must find the objects that are not suppose to be there and will throw them away in the trash. You will also have to go to the store and shop for your new food, which is healthy food. You will have to compare prices and options. You will attend health/exercise classes. When you are at the store, you will be asked how to find the fat in an object. Math might be included in the game.

Playing to Learn Part 1

Name of the Game: Don't Take it So Literary

What were you looking for?
I wasn't looking for anything specifically. All I was looking for in general was the way of teaching, how they projected their learning topic. The Game was fun to play because I can see how it would help me understand and learn the definitions of the words.

Was the Game fun to play?
In my opinion the game wasn't as adventurous as I wanted to be but although it didn't, it had a strong education skill. Actually it was fun because I was able to learn at the same time as playing.

How does the designer reward you and keep you playing?
The designer keeps us playing by doing the cool, glittery designs in the game. When I see those types of things it makes me feel inspired to keep on going and follow more on the game. It rewards me by saying "Good Job", or providing more levels for you.

What does this game teach you?
This game teaches me definitions of words that we need to know in our English Class. For example knowing all the English Elements. It also teaches me how to find words that I don't even know about.

I'm not sure If I noticed the hidden objects that taught me the objective but one I did notice was that it had hidden clues that matched with the word, for example synonyms were included.

I would say middle school would find the game educational, it is also good for teachers in a way were they would make learning fun for their students and not be bored.

I would make this game better by adding more color because when there is no color it is hard to entertain the player. I would also add more clues to some of the words, also include sentences to help the player understand.

Danger of a Single Story

- What does it mean to have a 'single story' about a place or community?
To have a "single story" about a place is a problem because it's all surrounded by people's inferences. To have a "single story" means having false inferences about a place you don't know. For example judging my teacher without even knowing her. Some false inferences are that, All Africans are poor. Mainly False Statements of a place or person without true information.

- Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?
Since my community is populated by Mexicans & African-Americans, people infer that we are all on drugs and are dirty people. What is missing from the story is not knowing how valuable we are. People can learn more about my community by coming by and visiting it. Talking to the people there.
 - Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community?
Whenever I would hear the city Los Angeles, I would think of it as such a pretty place with fancy things, celebrities all over, rich people. When I went to visit everything was the opposite of what I've always thought of. Just because a lot of celebrities are over there, it doesn't mean that it is all about them. There is also normal everyday people. I would have learned more about that community by asking people how everyday life is, do research on the city. That way I would learn more.

-  How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community?
In my opinion I think a game would let players experience many stories about a place or community by showing visual information. Kids would understand a game better, especially if it entertained them. Having fun while learning at the same time. I would enjoy that too.

A New Year

A New Year

So far, my school year has been a storm with a couple of sunny days. It's been stressful, rainy, and cold. At the same time it all hasn't been bad. The 1st week of school I had the chance to participate in an essay contest to attend an NCLR Conference in Los Angeles, California for 2 days. Unexpectedly I won! I and one of my friends got chosen. Now that's the good part.
My classes are fine. I have all AP Classes, which is good because I can have credits for High School. I like my new teachers, they're interesting. I'm okay with my schedule because it makes the day go by fast. I hope to accomplish a descriptive piece of artwork in my ART Class. I've always started a piece of artwork but never finished it. I would also like to try a new sport, for example Kickball. I hope this year goes by fast because I already want to go to College. I'm ready to work on my career!!! I also was thinking of moving but it is barely the 3rd week of school. It will get better.
That's all!

                                                   Truly, Arlette

Globey's on the Chronicle! Kids Make Games!

I thought the article was Hilarious! We are so awesome that we get to be on the News!
It makes me feel great! It makes me be proud of who I am and where I am at. I feel great to be attending this school, now everyone knows it and wants to join. Some are even jealous of me. I am proud to know that everyone knows our school now. It is recognized.
My game wasn't mentioned in the Article but although I at least made  it to the Globey Awards as my 3rd time winner. I am very proud of myself and it's hard to believe. I would have liked if the author had mentioned something good about my game for example, meaning that it was such an original game, one of a kind, never seen a topic or design like that. I believe he should have mentioned my game because it was different from others. It was outstanding. That should surprise people, finally there is a game that you don't move with arrow keys, you provide your feedback and learn information about what is happening in our world. Being aware.

Forks over Knives

What do you think this documentary will be about?
I think this documentary will be about food and poverty, there seems to be an epidemic with kids living less than their parents for the first time. Kids are now becoming sick with Diabetes, Heart Disease, High Cholesterol, High Blood Pressure, and many other things just because we are not eating right and exercising.

What do you think the title implies or indicates about the film?
I think the title implies choosing forks, which might not be the best over a better quality choice. Since it has to do with our health and food, that was my thought. Knives are hurtful, they give you pain-they cut, well th title can also imply choosing forks-as a better thing instead of knives-they hurt you.

Back in the 1900s we used to eat about 200-300lbs. of dairy and now it has doubled, we now eat about 600lbs of dairy foods. The same with meat- before we used to eat about 100lbs. and now we eat about 222lbs.  Starting in the 1960s heart disease was rising up, this is caused by having an excess amount of cholesterol in the heart area which causes a blockage, a heart pain called angina. A doctor discovered that women in the U.S. were far more to have breast cancer than in Kenya.
In the 1950s 12% less in china had heart disease. No matter what source the protein came from they needed more. Animal Protein is important to the human body, animal protein provides many things for us. Nutrients from animals caused Cancer.

My Comments!

My Comments, here are the following comments of the people who were my Top 3 Choices

Michael Alvarez
Hello Michael!
How are you? I would like to first say "Congratulations"!, your game was nominated for the Globey Awards. I wish you the best! Anyways I enjoyed playing your game. I liked the way you introduced facts to the player as the game was going on. Sometimes it is better that way because the audience doesn't get bored. I also liked the way you designed your game, the drawings, the animations. Over all your game was truly original. I've never seen a game like that before. Thanks for teaching me about the forest rats, even though I dislike science!

Jonathan Rodriguez
Hello Jonathan
I enjoyed playing your game, it was fun and educational. I am impressed with the design of your animations. It was spectacular the way you added facts to the game while the audience played. I thought it was interesting. It's great to focus on a topic like this.

Great Game, Arlette

Javier Martinez
Hello Javier
I was impressed with your game. I love the way you designed the animations. The scene of the game was clear and easy to read. The keys worked well, the character moved the right way. Nothing was wrong with the game, everything was fine. I thought it was smart that you added facts in the game scene, sometimes that is better because many people get bored. Over all the game is simple in a great way. At the same time you learn and have fun. What a great game!

Great Job! Arlette

Aleida Sanchez
Great Job! Aleida
I am so happy you got to finish your game because I've been wanting to play it since the day you told me what it was going to be like. The 1st time I played "Find Your Way" I was shocked because it was such a great topic to focus on and it was fun to play. I love the way you provided facts for the audience. I learned a lot. You are so right! Sometimes you can't even go out because you now have another responsibility-your kid. The questions were pain but motivated me in a way where I can say, I will take care of myself or not have a kid yet because I am too young! It was such an original game. I loved it!!!

Great Job! Arlette :)

Thelma Manzano

Hello Thelma!
How are you?!
I was proud of your hard work you put into your game. Like I told Aleida, I was enthusiastic with your game because of the way you designed it. The animations were pretty creative, I love your tiny characters. The scene where it was located at.

Loved your game, Arlette!!!!

Delaney Hereida
Great Job! Delaney
I enjoyed playing your game! I thought it was hilarious the way you added the questions for the audience because that way they see the consequences to having a kid at a young age. I mean, who would want to have a kid at this age? Most teenagers who have kids at this age aren't even responsible for this. You motivated me to take care of myself and not commit and irresponsibility I am not ready for, I want to party with my friends, have fun, enjoy my child-hood, Not taking care of a baby!!

Loved it, Arlette :)

Final Game

Game Description; Basically what you do in this game is read true life stories about hispanic teens who have committed suicide, after that you answer a question, asking you what would you have done? Maybe you can relate to them? Help and information is provided for you. You end up learning instead of you playing.

My name is Arlette and my team name is The Change, I created a game called No More, One is Enough!
The topic of my game is Teen Suicide. I want people to learn what Teen Suicide, the effects, anything can cause suicide now a days, how they can help and what to do in case of a situation like this. The player will learn from my learning goal by reading the stories in my game and answering the questions asked, there is also an about and help page which helps you learn and provides facts for you. I myself believe that the game isn't as entertaining as I thought it was going to be, but things I would like to change or improve to this game would be: adding more stories depending on other races not just Hispanic, adding a challenge-a maze or quiz, adding media based on the social issue. The most challenging part of creating this game was finding the right statistics provided for the audience. Although it was also challenging working with this topic because I can relate to it and it was sort of tough, it is a harsh topic. Even though it was hard I still made it. You just have to keep looking. I am proud of the originality that I had by being the only game about Teen Suicide, nobody else would have done it. Finishing in time was something I was proud of because last year I didn't get to finish in time, which was bad.

RESPECT

RESPECT

Respect has many meanings. It depends in every situation. For example, Respect starts out with you. You must respect yourself first in order to have respect for other things. If you don't respect yourself, how are other things going to be respected by you?
Respect looks like a way to treat things in an orderly manner. In the classroom, respect appears to be how we treat each other, asking for help, doing your work, helping others, following instructions and rules. Not only that but respecting your elder(s) When it comes to the Computer Lab, things change a bit because it becomes a daily process. I mean who doesn't know how to treat property the right way?! We are very lucky to have this equipment here because no other school probably does. That means we should definitely have respect. Always put things back in its place, pick up your chair when putting in or out. Everywhere you go you represent yourself and everything you are part of. Respect will always get you to a positive path. Respect is a huge part of life and for you to be order to live life, respect must exist or else, negative comes in the way. You should definitely have respect for yourself and highly expectations for visitors. Remember that Respect will always guide you through a great path.

Nike

Nike

I am totally against Nike now! I feel bad to not have known about this. I've wear Nike mainly all my life. I am also glad I finally now know who Nike is. Everyone deserves human rights, It's not like they're not humans. It has made me realize that we ask for more than what we have. When there is people out there who have nothing.
A $1.25 won't help them at all. At least don't take advantage of them,  make them work at an hourly schedule not forever. Increase their salary or give them a better condition place to work.
If I could change this I would first make an organization or something like that to help kids in other countries receive education because they need it. Provide some donations for them. I wonder why they do this?! They weren't treated like that so I suggest they treat others the same way. I wonder why they do these type of things.    Taking their passports, making them sign a 3 year contract that it's not even in their language?? Are you serious??? I can see how it is impossible for them to escape that field. Now that they've been freed it is still bad because themselves didn't even know what was happening. It is like they were pretending. They're such a huge company making big amounts of money and paying very little to the workers.

Object In the Sky!

I Arlette fFlores did this. I am not into Science that much, but turning this into a game for me would be life-taking. I'd create this life-event on a game by doing the same thing. People are driving or doing their own thing and they suddenly see a a weird thing in the sky. They start to wonder what it is. This is where the game starts, the player's job is to find out what it is. If you find out you win at the end. I'd focus on Adventure because that is what the whole game is about, an adventure to find out what it is. My topic would teach Science&Chemistry. Basically it will teach ways for them to find clues. The Hero of my game will look like a Scientist or one of the greatest in the whole world. There is probably no enemy because it's a "you win or loose". But I've been thinking of making a professional against a young kid. To see who has more knowledge. The player will see a bunch of cool neon animations that will make his brain think. They will also hear weird sounds. The title would be "One Day" because we was it one day.

Flash Reminders

Flash Reminders

1. Place everything in its own layer: For every object there is, a layer should be made. Even if it is a circle, head or chicken.

2. Place corresponding layers in the same folder: Make sure your layers are organized. For example: layers 1-5 in Folder 1.

3. Label layers and Folders: It is much better to label your stuff because you can obviously have trouble working with it.

4. You must assign Instance names to all Symbols: Flash speaks a different language, it doesn't know what a boy is. It will call it whatever name you give it.

5. Upload all your work to the Wiki whether its finished or not completed: This can help you open them whenever you need them.

My Gaming Habits

My Gaming Habits

I enjoy playing cooking games, not cooking but mainly Baking/Decorating. One of the main ones I play is called "OneCook"  and the other one is named "Cupcake". I started playing these game when I was like about 6 or 7 years old, I as a little kid didn't know that much so I enjoyed cooking online.
There is no Game System, it was online. NO!! why would my parents limit the amount of time I play!? They don't even care! Anyways If I was an addict they absolutely would limit my time. I actually think you can get addicted to gaming because you get so excited and want to get more out of it.

Globaloria and Gamefication, Game Design & Game Mechanics

In Globaloria I learn many things. I learn how to program things, I learn how to draw better in Flash, As a matter of fact I learn better technology.

Five Skills I've learned this past year are:

  • I've learned how to make a button in Flash
  • I've learned how to function a game
  • I've learned that if you add many frames it can possibly go wrong
  • I have adapted to coding with Flash
  • I've mainly learned how to work with the Technology we have now a days.
These skills can definitely help me find a job when I get older because if I ever can't find a job, I have skills for programming games in Flash, I can even find a job at a school or Technology center. I can reach higher expectations.

Gamefication: To me Gamefication is an element that is basically for a game  but isn't really provided into one because something is missing.

Game Design: To me Game Design is normally the set o everything. How it all comes to one thing. The visuality of who we are, the way we identify ourselves with. It isn't just the game but it is also a part of us.

Game Mechanics: It means the system of how the game works, to me it's sort of like a mechanic behind the game that makes sure everything is going where it suppose to go.
