About My Topic: Teen Suicide


This issue interests me because it affects me and my surroundings. It's been growing lately that it causes pain. I've been through this situation, it's painful, addicting and depressing. I don't want our society involved with this situation.


I want people to learn the causes of Teen Sucide, also who? why? what? does it? I want them to learn on what to do just in case they face this situation. I want them to know that silence isn't the right choice, they need to seek help. They will learn how they can help save a live. The main reason I want people to learn about Teen Suicide, especially parents because one day it can happen to their kids. They might not be able to cooperate with this tragedy. We must learn now before it's too late!


This issue needs to be addressed because it affects our society. It affects many people around us. Not just one but everybody. Many teens now a days are committing suicide for many reasons. We can't let this happen! They need help!!

Reflection on Game Idea

• WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.)

I am mainly designing this game for kids and adults. Kids around the age of 8-17 years old. The player can enjoy the game by being very mature. I exclusively don't design this game for younger kids because they might not be ready for this, they wouldn't be able to understand. 

• WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!)

My game will teach the player about Teen Suicide. It will provide everything they need to know about it. It will teach them how?, why?, what? and who? What's the cause for this action. How we can help? and who it can affect?

• WHERE does your game happen?

• Describe the world you will design for your game.
• How will this setting add to the learning experience?

My game takes place in school, home, bathroom, most of all a solitary world to a teen. A world where a bunch exist but a thought of no existence of somebody. This setting relates to the learning experience by being able to express yourself with your surroundings and world.  

• HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
• What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
• How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?

In this world the player learns how to deal with his feelings and all the choices he has. Whether he chooses to go the right or wrong way towards life and future. It teaches them what to chose that is best for them. The actions that are caused help the player learn. The errors he commits make him learn and provide help to the player in actual life.

• WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz?

Kids now a days are more likely to understand something visually. A quiz may not provide information for them while answering questions but a game can guide them through. That way they can understand what is happening.

1. Some of the challenges the penguins have to overcome are being aware of predators, sustaining the bad weather, keeping track wit others and last surviving for your womb.

2. It challenges them in many different ways for example: in their habitat there exists a cold weather that can affect their health. Not enough food that will feed them, they don't live in a safe habitat.

3. The type of adaptations that penguins adapt to be safe are keeping up with their group, not separating from others, not eating daily, huddling together to be warm.

4. There is no sunlight in the period of time because it's on a tilt. The sun is in a different direction where Antarctica isn't. It will affect the climate because it will become colder. The sun is the one that provides heat. 

5. It can harm them by about -100 / -200 degrees below zero , that is extreme cold weather. Their bodies can't sustain that type of temperature. They can but not beyond that point.

Reflection on Game Genres

• What did you learn from your choice of games and genres to review? I learned many different things from the genres I reviewed. I learned how important a sports game can be to a social issue game. I also learned how you can make a different game rather than others who just use action genre. There should be a positive purpose for a game.
• Name any game features that stood out to you, either because they were interesting or because they could be improved. Some game features that stood out to me were unknown. There was some flash components that I never knew you could do. The flash component I saw was outrageous because it totally matched with the game genre.
• Write down any questions you have about the game or genre you chose. You might answer them yourself later! How can you involve a puzzle game with a social issue, how to make a positive purpose towards the game.

In the game called Bullseye you have to shoot with and Arrow to try to save an animal's live. The way you try to save and animal's life is by trying your best to shoot the middle center of the target.

How you play the game or games:

The way you play the game is hard and easy at the same time but confusing because its sort of hard to shoot the middle. All you do is move the arrow to throw at the bullseye.

It taught me about the holoucast which leads to Social Studies in our school subjects.

Survivor There isn't really an exact social issue for this topic but Slavery can definitely relate to this because people weren't treated right back then.

Game I liked the best: Survivor was the only one I could possibly play.

What happens in the game: In the game the character tries to escape prison, sort of a concentration camp to let the world or others know what actually happens inside the camp.


How do you play it? The way you play is pretty easy but tempting at the same time because you imagine yourself running around a camp trying to escape with guards all over. The levels are not difficult. All you do is move the arrow keys to move away from the guards. At the end I finished getting out of the camp.

Gamers Solve Scientific Problems


How did gamers use the computer game Foldit to solve the protein folding mystery?
They untangled a structure of a protein that was able to be used to eliminate the AIDS virus in humans.


Who can participate in this problem solving and be a player in Foldit?
Any gamer can participate. They don't have to have an experienced background or anything like that because this game already causes them to mystify today's gaming nature. That's how easy it is.


What can critical thinking do for Science?
Searching and finding out what this game does is helping researchers find new unknown things that can actually help combat HIV in our lives. It's also helping them being against Antiretrovial Drugs.


If you could solve a mystery through gaming for any kind of disease or illnes in the world, what would it be?
I would probably literally solve a mystery for Diabetes through gaming because it would be interesting and awkward to see what and how it is involved through the gaming system.

Mini Game


Was it hard to make your mini game?
At the beginning of the lesson I thought it was going to be difficult but once I went back to the "make a mini game"section, I was convinced about it. I knew how to make this. I had done it for 2 years already. There was no way I wasn't able to do this.


What was the best part of this topic?
The best part of this topic was when I had to create my own background. I'm very creative and enjoy seeing things visually artistic. Drawing my road. 


The Worst Part?
There wasn't really any bad part for me. The sort of difficult problem was knowing in where to out the code and making sure all was correct.

How old were you on September 11, 2001? 
The day of September 11, 2001 I was 3 years old, 3 months away from turning 4 years old. 




When did you first learn about the attacks and who explained the events to you? 
I had never ever heard about the 9/11 attack until 4th grade. That is when I bearly found out about it. My 4th grade teacher explained to our class how everything had occurred. I was shocked and couldn't believe it. 




What kind of impact did these attacks have on your life or your parents lives? 
It actually had no effect in my life. I actually think it did cause effect in my parent's lives because they say that their economy went down and that is something very hurtful to them and our nation.




What was the issue with this game?
- The issue with this game is that it makes players feel powerless, the way it makes them feel. It suppose to make us feel better but it's  doing the opposite. 


How do you feel about it?
- I'm not blaming it or anything but I do think it's non-respective because it is something that affected us, it would be like making fun of our Country. I don't agree with it.


What is the problem with the portraying on such an awful violent event through a video game?
- The problem is that they have no respect for our country= America. It's just not right. It's wrong and they shouldn't do it because they wouldn't like it if we did the same for something else.


How can you make sure that your web games tell the whole story or teach a lesson in an honorable way?
-I can make sure it doesn't by taking in consideration people's opinions, not just my thoughts but others too. Knowing what is right and what is bad.

2 Single Story 2011

"Danger of a Single Story"

1. What does it mean to have a 'single story' about a place or community?

To have a single story about a place or community means to have or provide you're own information about a something. For example you might have an idea of how a place is because of all the media you've seen before and it turns out that when it comes to reality, it isn't what you thought of. It's all different from what you expected to see. It's an exact part of stereotypes. A Stereotype is a widely held explanation or idea about a person place or thing.

1. Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?

I actually haven't been told about a "Single Story" about my Community or a place. In my community there is thought of many things. I've been asked so many times: Do you like living here? and I respond: it might not be the best but I do enjoy living here. They think of my community as an old Mexican black community, where they drink, steal, fight and sell drugs. People think that just by giving it one look it says it all but they are wrong. For ex. Let's say I went to visit a friend in California and she thought I wasn't going to visit because of our differences= she was rich and I was poor. Just because I wasn't as high as her doesn't mean I wasn't able to take a flight and stay at a fancy hotel. Like I said again: "One look doesn't say it all". What this single story is missing is they reality there actually is. My community isn't what it's been stereotyped, it might be old but not of any other, yes they are blacks and Mexicans. "With one scant peek the mouth opens" In real life we are all kind to each other, we share, we care for the children and we all live united in our own beautiful way. People can learn better from my community by actually realizing how it is. Giving it a visit, living there and give it more than one look to know it ALL, NOT JUST A "SINGLE STORY".

1. Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community? A single story I've heard before is about The West side of Austin which is said that they are rich and the rest isn't as far. I learned this story by many different people. Since my mom works on that side of town, she definitely can recognize it. I can find out more about this community by visiting them, making some friendship. Try to see what the west side of Austin really is. Ask them what they think about how people think of them. What is their response.

1. How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community?

A game can definitely let players experience many stories about a place or community by showing them what people really are and letting them know what they are not, ask many questions in there. The questions will help them understand life better they way it really is because now a days kids are used to the media worldwide and it's like the only thing they can count on. They might think that the internet is always right but it's not. What the media shows might not be what you think it is. Including all of this in a game can work out for kids in many ways. That way they can relate to their own "Single Story".

- "Cyberbully" The Movie

Review/Questions: 1

• How does the main character feel about using "Clicksters" in the beginning of the film? -The main character which is Taylor feels great about using Clicksters. She's new so she doesn't imagine anything going wrong but she is curious about some privacy questions.
• What is her family situation? -Her parents are divorced. She only has 1 brother. Her mother is raising them by herself. Parents don't really have time for them, they kind of work a lot. They don't have such a good communication with each other.
• What type of friendship does she have? -I wouldn't say she has the best friendship but she has some really good friends. They hang out with her, they support her for now.
• When does the Cyberbullying begin? -The Cyberbullying begins when her brother purposely posts something unwated in Taylor's Clicksters page. Right after that they start bullying her.

Review/Questions:2

• What is the result of the Cyberbullying that Taylor experiences? -The result turns out to be horrifying that it leads her to committing suicide. Many people are bullying her. One of her bestfriends even impersonate a guy she liked. It gets worse every day. It makes a change in her life and world of everyday's lives.
• What type of Cyberbullying does Taylor experience? - She experiences a terrible time with Cyberbullying. The experience she's gotten has risen her to lead.
• What would you do if you were in Taylor's shoes? -If I was in Taylor's shoes I wouldn't have been suffering like her. I would have never replied to those mean comments or people. First I would delete my account and ignore it like it never happened. After that I would make a difference in our World to stop any type of Bullying.

• How does Taylor react to the mean comments people keep posting about her? -Her reaction is powerful, she is furious about it and follows the game. Which means she does the same thing back to them.
• Does she ever try to stop people from posting insults? -She doesn't really try anything. She thinks that the only way to stop it is by fighthing back. She has not a bit of confidence and believes that she can't do anything about it.
• How do you think Taylor felt about her friends betraying her? -I think she felt agitated because they know what's happening to her and shouldn't friends be there for the bad moments and the outcome turns out to be that they won't be there for her.
• What kind of changes do you see Taylor experiences? -She experiences changes in her life and other's lives. She went trough it even though it was hard. She ended the battle but she still has the WAR to finish.

"Winding Down"

What is your team name?
My teams name is: The Pinkiies

What is the name of your game?
The name of my game is called: Animals & Their Habitats

What is it about?
My game is about spreading the word to people about saving and helping out the endangered species around our whole world. They may have some resources that are useful to us, the same way they might help us, the reason why we should give them a hand.


What scenes have you completed?
So far we've completed every scene but its just that there's minimum problems that are still causing trouble. We are working on them.

What parts of your team page are completed?
Almost every part of our team page has been completed, I don't think there's something missing.

How much more work do you need to complete?
Were past half-way there, so we only have to go over the buttons and make sure they are being controlled.

What can you do from now until Friday to get everything finshed and turned in?
I can probably stay afterschool often to make sure that everything is working well and its not out of control. Try to finish it in class.

What grade would you give yourself in Globaloria overall?
From my perspective, I don't take myself as the best nor the least but I am definetly a hardworker. I like to get my work finished in time and show my best at all times. I would give myself a an 80-95.


What are all of the things you have learned this year?
There is many of things that I've learned this year that I can't even list but one of the most important things that I've learned is Adding Animation in Flash, Adding Buttons and actually making things work together.


What are you proud of in Globaloria?
I am very proud of my improvement of skills, last year I didn't really know a lot but this year I've learned much more.

Has it reached Attention?:Nintendo 3DS

A normal Nintendo DS used to be, now what is it?, is it still the same?, is it the same price?, let's check out what's happening!

WOW! Look at what Nintendo has brought us, a new 3-dimensional portable game console. It seems like our Technology keeps on getting better and better, how can our society fit this in but not the world resources and preoccupancies? I think that Entertainment Companies are trying to compete against each other by putting in new effects in the media. I wonder which one will outrank the most? a NGP:PSP or the Nintendo 3DS???

Functionalities and Interests: It has a better color resolution in and inside of it. New 3-Dimensional effects. An analog stick that helps play the game, more likely like a mover. Button's on a different place. More applications. 2 new cameras. A different style of charging battery. And much more. It's price is around $200 and $250 but different prices around other countries, it seems like ours is the cheapest.

YES!!, Claro, I would include a celebrity in my game, it would actually make it better and interesting. I would like to include Piink or Taylor Swift because they are my main role models, the ones I admire a lot.

If it could be anyone from the past or present to include in my game would definetly be my great grandfather because he fits in the character in the game. He would relate to it.


To promote my game I would just put it online, probably associated it with a game company that way people would get with me and be interested in my game. My 2nd choice would be to go on Shows and present it to them.

Disaster in Japan- A school volunteers to help

Japan, a country located in East Asia recently had a Tsunami Attack. It was tremendously big that it even hit the whole country being about 24ft long. I think that Japan does not deserve this because they are a very intelligent country. They have been destroyed a lot and are in some need. An unknown school gave them a hand by raising money to donate it to them, they have before donated about $6,000 cash for the incident of Haiti but they can help Japan more than that. Schools around the world doing this is great, specially for young kids because they learn to share and help the ones in need. I hope everything goes well for Japan and donesn't happen again to them or others.

PSP : Next Generation Portable

This is Amazing! I'm Speechless. I can't believe it. Technology keeps on getting better and better.

In my opinion, it's a great object for the Future. It's very cool.

It's touchscreen, has a camera, sensor pad and is 3G Network, WOW! What else do you want? It's almost all we want. I bet it's better than the other Portable Medias out there. This is great! I'm so anxious to see it, touch it and play it. I appreciate SONY for making all these awesome and Hilarious things.

• I see these students working together by communicating with each other.

How important was teamwork for these students?

This was almost 100% sure importaneous for them because they wanted to win the trophey, they were working hard for it. They said "if we didn't get the trophey last year, then we're getting it this year".

What do you think is the main message that these students should take away from this experience? That just because they come from a rowdy or have had a bad childhood doesn't mean that they can't do anything.

How will you work together with you teammates in Globaloria?

I will always work with whatever person in my globaloria class no matter what their diversities are. I will work together with them by showing each other respect,good communication and sportsmanship.

1st Game: Count The Cubes

This game is about counting the total number of cubes in a 3-dimensional figure. For me it was kind of hard because even though there is 12 cubes, there comes the tricky part when there is also some in the back and it confuses you to another place. What you can do to understand this game better is to becareful whenever you are counting the cubes and always remember that you have cubes in the back too. I enjoyed this game a lot even though it had difficulties, the exact reason why I enjoyed this game was because it was challenging and I like to challenge myself so that way I can understand better and know the causes of it.

2nd Game: Number Balls

Number Balls is a game about balls that have a number in it, there is a scene with number balls and you have to put the balls in order from least to greatest. It was some how easy and some kind hard because there was really long negative numbers so you would get confused to put them in order.I like this game because it's awesome in a mathematical way.

1st Game: J.lo Fur Bully on The Block

Lots of people say that Jennifer Lopez is a Bully to animals because she wears too much fur clothes and that is a kill to our animals. This game is played in an easy way to pass and finish, first of all you have to customize your character then you just have to walk fast around the place where you are located at and save an animals live by clicking the spacebar. You can also distract her from chasing you by getting a reporter to interview her that way you get to save more animal lives.


2nd Game: Super Chick Sisters

This game is about playing just exact the same things as Mario but except this is a social issue game that involves and helps the players be informed about the reality of fast food restaurants. It teaches the player the social issue by providing them information about the Restaurants.

Movie

I loved this movie, it's so competitious and nervousy. It inspires me a lot within its skills,creativity and intelligence. The wizard movies was about a family who has a genius in their family but it's too bad because they are all separated, their young brother Jimmy has become traumatized after the death of his twin sister Jennifer so that's why he is now attending a rehability center. While Cory and Jimmy escape home and while they are on their way to California for the International Video Game contest they meet a girl who's name is Hailey, thanks to her she helps them enter the contest. Even though it takes a while for them to get there they still work hard and get Jimmy ready for it. While they are alone wondering round the cities, their parents and the crazy guy who wants them are looking for them. Their parents know that they are going to find them and will be ok. Jimmy relates building to the game skills and strategies by, when he builds it's like when he plays the game it is as if he was to build the game. Jimmy is such a genius. He does these things for a reason not just because he wants to, there is always a reason for everything, I think that he does this because it helps him wonder his mind around other things not just his sister,but he still does want to remember her always and forever even though he does those things. When people get traumatized they become affected by it and can try out new things so it can help them get to a new realization in this world, but that effect will never go away it will always stay there for life no matter what, no matter how and when.

The Great Debaters Movie

I haven't watched the whole movie but part of it I have. In my opinion this movie is mostly about a group of debaters who fight for their own rights not only for theirs but for everyone, they want and need equality,if no one steps up then it will stop. It all starts out with a Black community College that makes a Debate team to fight against equal rights. There can be and only 4 people in it. They are always competing and in every competition they become the winners, suddenly they become recognized, that even other universities want to compete against them. Once they get to compete against their first competition with a white college and they also end up being the winners. The debate team has become known by a lot of people but then there is a problem that affects their team. Their professor has a problem with the law, he is being looked for so then they arrest him but his family and friends won't let that happen so Dr. farmer-a parent of one of the debaters talks to the sheriff of the county and so they let him free.

Google Science Fair
Wow! I am really impressed of what Google has come up with. I did't really expect this reality from it, I thought that Google was just a media center but it seems that it's actually not what I thought.
