Present Game - Natt's Biomolecule Adventure

The learning topic for my game is Life's Biomolecules. Biomolecules will be presented throughout the game for the player to identify what a Lipid, Carbohydrate, Protein and Nucleic Acid is. The most important thing I want my players to learn is how to identify what biomolecules is which.

I did random resourceful research. I specially looked at general websites such as SAT Notes. I learned every piece of a biomolecule. What the building blocks of a protein are: amino acids. How monosaccharides and disaccharides are different but both are involved in Carbohydrates. I basically learned the concept of every molecule.

My ideas changed quite a bit as I worked on my game because as I was putting it together new thoughts popped into my head. Maybe I should make it difficult for the player by adding a harder game ingredient. Maybe I shouldn't add a health bar to confuse the player, etc.

The Game Ingredients that have been the most helpful for me are the following; Background Music, Splash Screen, Relative Mouse Positioning, Parallax Scrolling and Flying Mechanics. They all add up to make the perfect match of entertainment for the player. The game ingredients page on the wiki has been obviously the most resourceful because it tells me step by step how to do something.

The most difficult part for me of making my game was when I got stuck on the very first steps of the game such as the score counter and collecting enemies/collectables. Everything was correct and for some reason my games wasn't working. I worked and checked everything for about 2 weeks and nothing ever happened. I tried my best to figure it out by myself but it was impossible. Until finally I asked my teacher for help. She couldn't take fix it either, we sent it to the globaloria helpdesk but it became worse. I had to start over in a new computer, gladly my teacher helped me with that to get back on track.

I am most proud of my collectables and enemies because they are graphically designed in Flash. My design is just too science looking and cartoon wise. I love my game and am very proud of myself for it. It's amazing! It has great design for 8th graders to understand Biology wisely.

Paper Prototype

Making a paper prototype for my game was adventurous. I found it interesting because I got to draw out and imagine my game. How awesome is that? I had the chance to map my game out through the whole scenario. It was a bit difficult drawing exactly what I wanted because I'm not a professional artist but I just tried my best. Other than that, I'm glad I've planned out my game. Drawing out my paper prototype helped me solve my game idea quite well because you can thoroughly know what you will need. It helped me imagine what it was going to look like. If I hadn't drawn my paper prototype then I probably wouldn't know what my game would look like.

Game Quest

You are to have a bit of knowledge about Bio Molecules. The problem is that the body needs  proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids. Therefore, your goal is to grab the collectables which are the building blocks of every molecule. Your job is to enter the immune system all around and find where your molecules are located, not specifically the immune system but the body in general. You need to first locate all molecules for example: the nucleic acids are located in the DNA. Where exactly in the DNA do you need to locate them. After you have located them, you are to feed your body or find ways out for the molecules to have their building blocks. The character is a camera that is going inside the body to make sure its aware of what is suppose to be inside. The objects to avoid would be basically what doesn't belong in a molecule. You'll probably have to restart every time you make an error, for example: amino acids do not belong with carbohydrates. Your mission is to be able to explain the roles of molecules in the body.

Designing Side Scrolling Games

1st Design for my Side Scrolling Action Game would be to add advanced ingredients that would make the game challenging as most possible. By this, I mean I would add different types, all types of ingredients to make it unique an easy to play for mobile.

2nd Design for my side scrolling Action Game would be to make an easy quick ingredient game not as much as the others. This would make the game not just fun but simple.  Except, that this design would be a bit easier for the mobile, and a bit too simple for the the console.

Console usually is a machine with whom one plays video games, It's a bit more complicated. In this case, the designer can add a lot more detail to the game. Including anything else they want to make the game adventurous and even long enough to have a challenge in each level.

For a mobile game, usually what is designed is not much with detail, sometimes it's basically the most fun simple designed game. Here, they don't have to worry about about adding all these different types of ingredients because they won't be needed. A mobile game is always the most simple since it will only include just 2 fingers touching the screen, not many controls unlike the console.

Semester Goals

I've always had high expectations for myself but lately I haven't been up to them, I must get back to work. It's a new semester and my #1 goal is to go hard, meaning to give it my everything %100. College is just around the corner and I want my GPA to be as high as it can get. Last semester I slacked a bit and it didn't go so well, I got the worst grade ever out of my whole life on my strongest subject: English.
Another goal that relates to this, is to always ask for help even if I am shy to ask because I must understand every concept or else I won't progress. Most of the time I am shy to ask the teacher for help because I don't want to sound dumb but anyways I should always ask or else I'll actually be the real dumb person.

One of my most valuable goals is to become a better hitter in Volleyball. Last season, I didn't really give it my best at hitting, I wasn't confident enough. I know I am strong enough to spike great hits!! I am definitely excited for next season. I would like to improve my digging for the most powerful spikes, for example my coach's spike. I hope to come back better than ever this season. I know I can do it, I have the strength at power to.

My 3rd goal for the semester would be to become a better dancer and more flexible. I've always enjoyed dancing but stopped for a long time because I started to forget about it. I totally forgot how great of a dancer I am. This semester, I am in Dance, which will definitely help me. I've been thinking lately and I kind of want my career in the dance area. I love to dance honestly, I find it a sense of freedom.
